When we increase our ability to meet life from a state of relaxed, focused awareness, our answers emerge naturally. The brain/mind/body is always working towards health and well-being. Sometimes there are blocks in the way. These blocks create anxiety and depression in various forms. I believe the purpose of therapy is to help remove barriers to allow your own natural healing to proceed.

A safe, accepting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship fosters increased emotional balance and well-being, including at the level of your neurochemistry. I use various approaches and work with my clients as co-detectives. We seek, discover, and implement your personal path to greater emotional freedom and improved relationships with self and others.

I specialize in trauma and its effects, which may include: anxiety, depression, relational problems, sleep problems, anger, and sometimes even physical pain. Many people who don't identify with trauma have similar effects in their system and benefit from therapy.
Services
As a social species, we all need support in different ways.
We calm our nervous systems and regulate our emotions in relation to other beings (family, friends, pets, and sometimes therapists).
Therapy is one way to build resiliency through connection in a safe, supportive setting.
Sometimes connecting authentically with ourselves is the first step, and can be overwhelming for a variety of reasons.
As a therapist I assist clients in realizing their own inner resources and wisdom.
This helps create more choice about which relationships and experiences they want to foster.
Have you ever noticed that talking to a friend while walking can be more helpful in changing your perspective and coming up with ideas and solutions than sitting and talking?
Sometimes memories and events get "stuck" in a part of our brain that isn't able to create meaning or usefulness from information and that has no sense of time.
This is why some people with trauma have flashbacks and feel as if they're back in the event itself.
Essentially, EMDR can change how memories are stored in the brain, rendering them less intense and removing or lessening negative reactions to the memories and associated triggers.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is generally short-term, is goal-oriented, and takes a practical approach to problem-solving.
The goal is to change the patterns of thinking and behavior that underly client's difficulties.
Basically, our thoughts create and affect our feelings and behaviors to a great extent.
We all have errors in our thinking and as we identify these errors, we can replace them with more useful and correct thoughts.
CBT is used to help treat a wide range of issues from sleeping difficulties and relationship problems, to drug and alcohol abuse, to anxiety and depression.
Do you have trouble getting to sleep, staying asleep, or falling back to sleep once you've awoken in the wee hours?
You are not alone!
I have overcome an intense and prolonged chronic sleep disorder and I can help you get the sleep we all deserve.
One caveat: the first step in addressing sleep problems is ruling out a medical disorder such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and physical pain.
I can't do that part, a medical professional has to.
Once that's ruled out - we can get to work.
I am trained in CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), which is a structured program backed by research that helps identify and replace thoughts and behaviors that cause or worsen sleep problems, combined with developing habits that promote sound sleep.
Everyone comes to therapy with their unique fingerprint of life circumstances, beliefs, histories, supports, talents, needs, etc.
Our work together is to find the blueprint for your growth and healing.
Creative therapies can increase and improve connection with ourself, our relations, and the world around us.
It's important to note that clients do not need any prior experience or talent to benefit, in fact, "expertise" can be a hinderance to creative healing.
