Because of my commitment to social justice and creating lasting relationships, I am a volunteer therapist withA Home Within, an organization which provides pro-bono long-term therapy to foster children and former foster youth. Additionally, I am a founding member of Mind the Gap, the mental health consortium of UCSF's Child and Adolescent Gender Clinic, which is committed to providing gender affirmative services to gender expansive and transgender children, youth, and their families.

I am also passionate about training new therapists in relational and depth therapy, particularly in the areas of play therapy for children, therapy with teenagers, parenting consultation, and providing services for gender diverse individuals. Currently I have one employed therapist, Dana Loreaux, AMFT. I have provided mental health services within a variety of settings, including schools, psychiatric in-patient units, community-based programs, and private practice over the past 18 years.

Children naturally develop and relate to their world through their use of play.
For this reason, I utilize play therapy with children in order to build a trusting relationship, understand their experience of the outer world, and help them along their natural path of development.
Individual sessions with children usually are 'play sessions'.
As a child psychologist, I am trained to use specific aspects of play to help a child to process and move through any difficulties they are experiencing.
I also help children to begin to verbalize their needs and experiences in ways that they might not have previously been able to, which may further strengthen their relationship with you.
Having a baby represents a period of immense change while enduring intense physical and emotional demand.
Therefore, it is no surprise that many parents experience the "baby blues" and feelings of "losing one's self".
While difficulties are to be expected, some people experience greater distress, such as postpartum depression.
Increased stress and feelings of overwhelm make the demands of parenting much more difficult.
This might include symptoms such as experiencing little joy in relating to your baby, feeling excessive guilt about not being able to parent in the way that you imagined, or extreme irritability.
As we all remember, adolescence can be a particularly challenging transition for youth as well as their parents.
Adolescents are facing confusing and difficult decisions about their future and identity.
During this time they need both love and guidance from their parents as well as the space to develop independence.
This balance is often difficult to navigate.
In order to grow, adolescents must take healthy risks, but unfortunately, some fall into unhealthy risk-taking, such as alcohol/drug use, self-injurious behavior ex.
It is often difficult to reach out for help, especially if you are used to taking care of yourself and/or others.
The truth is that the bravest thing you can do is ask for help, and allow someone else to face the truth with you, so that you do not have to do it alone.
Some people seek therapy in order to address a particular issue, such as depression or difficulty developing relationships.
Others seek therapy in order to gain support in making an important decision in their lives, such as choosing a career or a life path.
