Individual therapy, which is sometimes referred to as psychotherapy or counseling, is the process of working one on one with a licensed mental health professional.
Individual therapy is safe, compassionate, collaborative and confidential.
Whether you are coping with major life challenges, childhood trauma, symptoms of depression or anxiety or are inspired to improve yourself in some way, individual therapy can help you achieve your goals.
Depending on the goals you set, you and your therapist may work together for a few sessions or several years.
Couples therapy is a process where a couple works with their therpaist to identify areas of conflict and/or areas in their relationship they would like to change.
They then develop a plan to improve both indiviudal's level of satisfaction and contentment within the relationship.
Couples therapy is a safe place for partners to express and explore how their individual backgrounds, perceptions, behaviors and beliefs may be negatively or positively impacting their relationship.
The therapist can help with immediate problems as well as develop strategies for future concerns that may arise once therapy has terminated.
Family therapy is a type of psychotherapy that helps families or individuals within a family understand and improve the way family members interact with each other and resolve conflicts together.
This type of therapy strengthens the entire family, allowing each family member to rely on one another to work towards desired family change.
Family therapy is usually provided by therapists known as marriage and family therapists.
These therapists provide the same mental health services as other therapists, simply with a specific focus - family relationships.
Like a medical examination in which a physician evaluates a patient's physical well-being by speaking with the patient and/or administering formal tests, a psychological assessment is a process through which a psychology professional evaluates a client's psychological, emotional, and behavioral well-being through open dialogue and formal testing.
A series of face-to-face interviews during which the psychology professional meets with the client (and sometimes his/her family members) to gain a rich understanding of the client's emotions, behaviors, thoughts, coping strategies for dealing with life's challenges, and personal strengths.
