One in 10 children have a disability (neurological, emotional, behavioral, developmental, physical). Couples (parents) of special needs children benefit from support such as psychotherapy and regular date nights (50% or more of all special needs couples divorce). Mental illness and intellectual disability are not the same.

Mental illness affects a person's thinking, behavior, and mood, whereas individuals with an intellectual disability experience limitations in intellectual function and difficulties with certain skills. At Gurtz Counseling, LLC we specialize in working with individuals, couples and families faced with unique needs. Our mission is to restore hope, reduce stress, re-frame negative issues, promote self-forgiveness and facilitate awareness; so that each individual can live a happier, more productive life.

Our goal is to provide individuals, couples and families with tools to empower themselves and lead happier, more fulfilling lives. We believe that counseling is a collaborative endeavor that takes place in a supportive, empathetic environment.

People come in for counseling for a number of different reasons including treatment for depression, anxiety, stress management, assertiveness training, dissatisfaction with life, eating issues, resolving past trauma, or feelings of emptiness.
In addition to resolving the conflict that brought you to therapy, counseling can give you the insight and skills to have a happier, more productive life.
Through family counseling your family can resolve conflict, improve communication, problem-solve together, and create harmony in your home.
Many people considering therapy have questions about counseling and what goes on during an appointment.

If you have questions that are not covered here, do not hesitate to contact us; we are here to help and only a phone call away.
What is the difference between "Therapy, " "Psychotherapy" and "Counseling?"
For many people, the use of the terms counseling and therapy is a matter of preference.
Some say that the difference is that a therapist has more training, can treat more severe issues, and may offer longer term and more in-depth treatment.
