Patients often come to counseling on their own initiative. Many referrals for counseling are also made by physicians, schools, ministers, family members, friends and other mental health providers. Counseling Associates is a collegial group of qualified private mental health practitioners as licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. We have diversified backgrounds of professional training and areas of special interest and expertise.

Services
I have over 25 years of experience counseling adults, adolescents and children.
Currently I work almost exclusively with adults and am the Director of our practice.
My style is interactive and I work collaboratively with patients to understand patterns in their lives to help them not only evolve strategies, but to strengthen their skills for making change.
My areas of expertise include working with people who struggle with Anxiety Disorders, (including Panic Attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Agoraphobia and Generalized Anxiety in everyday life); Men's Issues (including coping with life changing events and exploring decisions and directions in the roles they handle in their personal or career life); Working with both men and women as they struggle with adjustment disorders (including "mid-life crises, " handling loss or potential loss of relationships, and personal or work related stressors); Communications skills for either individuals or couples (including GLBT); and working with individuals who struggle with feelings of depression and isolation.

Each therapist maintains his or her own schedule.
In order to set an appointment, you should contact the provider directly at our main telephone number: 703-330-5155.
Every patient is assessed on an individual basis.
Initially patients generally will meet with their therapist on a weekly basis.
In order to provide therapeutic consistency and to allow patients to best plan their own schedules, most appointments are set in a "home slot."
A home slot is a recurring appointment at the same time on a weekly basis.

In order that a patient receives counseling from a counselor with expertise in a specific area, we have found it best to call our office for scheduling an appointment.
If you see a therapist who you believe meets your specific needs, certainly feel free to call him/her specifically.
Otherwise feel free to contact either our Director, David Banner, or our Office Manager, Shelby Warnell at 703-330-5728.
