Emily is a fully licensed child and family therapist originally from Fargo.
She earned her Master's degree in 2009 from North Dakota State University and has over thirteen years of experience working with children.
Emily also brings years of both in-home and in-patient therapy experience, with specializations in autism spectrum disorders, trauma, marriage counseling, crisis intervention and mood disorders.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist practicing in Fargo, ND, Emily Coler Hanson provides treatment for a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, marital problems or individual psychological problems, child and adolescent disorders, as well as child-parent issues.
Emily is licensed by the state of North Dakota and is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
Research indicates that marriage and family therapy is as effective, and in some cases more effective than standard and/or individual treatments for many mental health problems such as: adult schizophrenia, affective (mood) disorders, adult alcoholism and drug abuse, children's conduct disorders, adolescent drug abuse, anorexia in young adult women, childhood autism, chronic physical illness in adults and children, and marital distress and conflict.
Areas of focus include depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and self-esteem issues.
One-on-one therapy sessions gives you the opportunity to work one-on-one with local Fargo therapist Emily Coler Hanson, M.S., LMFT, CGP.
You will spend your first few sessions sharing background information and developing your therapy goals.
These goals can be re-evaluated at any time throughout the therapy process.
Emily uses a very strength based approach, making working on your goals a positive experience.
Childhood and adolescence is a time of growth and change, and young people are not always equipped to handle the stresses of life.
Or they may have been exposed to traumas beyond their capacity to cope.
Emily has been providing child therapy to children and adolescents for over 10 years in Fargo and our surrounding community.
She has been trained to work with children who have experienced trauma or abuse in order to help them overcome the aftermath of such events with confidence, integrity and peace.
Couples choose to begin therapy or marriage counseling for many reasons.
Perhaps you are wanting to strengthen your relationship prior to commitment/marriage.
Maybe you are wanting to rebuild your relationship.
Or maybe your relationship is ending and you are looking for closure.
Participating in couple's therapy together is a great opportunity for all couples to improve their communication skills and develop deeper, more meaningful relationships.
Issues within our closest relationships (like the relationship with your significant other) can often spill over into other areas of life, so it's important that these relationships be as strong and as supportive as possible.
