For more than twenty-five years, in a variety of contexts, I have served individuals, couples and families as a pastor and marriage and family therapist. For more than a decade my wife and I with our children lived in one of Portland, Oregon's lowest income urban neighborhoods where we founded a multifaceted compassionate ministry that included a church mission, a professional counseling center, and youth mentoring and after school programs.
I have served the greater Kansas City area through my private counseling practice located in Olathe since 2003. I am a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist (LCMFT) in the State of Kansas. I stay at the top of my field by passionately pursuing continuing education opportunities each year. I participate at the national level as an AAMFT Clinical Fellow (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy).

Services
The foundation of my approach to counseling is an asset-based, family systems perspective.
Sometimes we can get so "problem focused" that we forget we really do have considerable internal and external resources to get to the place we want to be.
As important as our difficulty is, we are much more than our problem.
I partner with my clients in re-discovering (or sometimes discovering for the first time) their considerable strengths and how to apply those strengths to their issue of concern.
My broad life experiences with a wide variety of people, contexts and issues have all given me a profound respect and compassion for my clients who face their challenges head on.

My rate is $100 per 50-minute session.
I do not charge a higher rate for the Initial Intake session or for couple or family sessions.
Fees are due at the end of each session, cash or personal checks are accepted as preferred payment; Visa, MasterCard or Discover are also accepted.
Clients normally pay $100 for their sessions at the end of each session.
However, some clients choose to pre-pay, at a discounted rate, for a "package" of either 5 or 10 sessions.
All advance pre-pay appointments may be scheduled at the time of your pre-payment, or on a session by session basis.

The 4:30 PM appointment on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 6:00 PM appointment on Wednesday are often scheduled two to several weeks out due to high demand.
If you have flexibility in your schedule, especially for your first appointment, then I can usually get you in much more quickly.
Once we do get you on the schedule I am most always able to schedule your regular appointments on days and times that work best for you.
Some clients prefer to meet on the same day and time each session while others need flexibility in scheduling; I try to accommodate your needs either way.

If you have any questions about my services and the possible suitability of us working together in your particular situation, please feel free to contact me by whatever method you prefer.
Please be aware that I do spend most of my day in appointments and I do not take calls when I am with clients.
If you do get my voicemail, please leave a message with your phone number and windows of time when I can best reach you.
I make every effort to return calls between sessions within 24-hours and usually much sooner.
