To check for Dr. Schild's availability or to request an appointment, please call (858-602-2847) or email. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and an EMDRIA certified EMDR clinician. I provide professional short and long-term individual psychotherapy for adults via telehealth. I believe each person is unique and therefore deserves an individual approach to treatment.
It is my goal to create a therapeutic environment that allows you to reach your full potential, rediscover your inner strengths, and develop new life skills to address the problems and symptoms that are weighing you down.

The purpose of this study was to validate the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) in deaf individuals and to explore trauma symptoms in deaf adults.
The CAPS was administered in conjunction with the Life Event Checklist (LEC), the Peritraumatic Distress Scale (PDST), the Trauma Symptom Inventory (TSI), the Trauma Symptom Checklist for Deaf Adults (TSCDA), the Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire (SDQ), the Peabody Individual Achievement Test-Revised (PIAT-R), and a socio-demographic questionnaire.

Both deafness and dissociation disconnect the individual from certain aspects of the external environment.
Dissociation among the deaf population has been largely neglected as an area of scientific investigation.
The purpose of this study was twofold: First, to examine the psychometrics of two dissociation measures - the Dissociation scale of the Trauma Symptom Inventory (TSI) and the Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire-20 (SDQ-20) - and second, to evaluate the relationship between dissociation and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in deaf adults.

Information Deprivation Trauma (IDT; Schild & Dalenberg, 2012b) is a concept that has not been adequately addressed in the trauma literature.
IDT is a concept requiring a negative emotional response (e.g., fear, helplessness, horror) consequent to (a) a lack of understanding of the extent/magnitude/ consequences/probability of a current or impending meaningful event and (b) an inability to access information about this event that would reasonably allow a person to prepare, appropriately respond, and/or self-protect.

What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma and other psychological problems.
Compared to other therapies, however, EMDR is not a traditional talk therapy.
Instead, EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches, which help to reprocess material that was "unresolved and locked" in the brain.
