Great Relationships Education Center
Are you tired of relationships that aren't working, of feeling overwhelmed or depressed, of being in and out of one dead end relationship after another? Are you looking for relationship counseling in Colorado Springs with a therapist who can truly help and support you as you work to change your life?. Welcome to the Great Relationship Education Center website, and congratulations for taking the first (and sometimes most difficult) step toward making positive changes in your life!

Shopping for a therapist can be stressful. How do you choose the right person with whom you may end up sharing extremely personal information? Your therapist needs to be someone you trust, and with whom you feel completely safe. I have been doing individual and relationship counseling in Colorado Springs for over 12 years with individuals and couples.

The couples I work with address issues including communication, infidelity, parenting, finances, intimacy and conflict, among others. I also do therapy and life-coaching with individuals on issues including trauma (often using EMDR which is a very powerful, proven modality), depression, work-related issues, relationships, anxiety and other life challenges.
Services
Couples Counseling: I use the latest research and my extensive couples counseling experience to help couples stabilize, enrich, strengthen, and enjoy their relationship.
Solution-Focused & Narrative Therapy for Individuals, Couples and Families: I use strength-based, solution-focused therapy and narrative therapy.
This means that I help you (and your partner and/or family in couples / family therapy) use the strengths and experience you already have to find effective solutions rapidly.
You can learn more about strength-based, solution-focused and narrative therapy on theTherapeutic Orientation page.
I have been providing therapy for individuals, couples and families since 1994.
I received a master's degree in Social Work in 1993 from Washington University in St. Louis, and received a master's degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Colorado State University in 1996.
I have been licensed in Colorado as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2000, and am a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
I have supervised Master's level Marriage and Family Therapists at Colorado State University, and continually seek training in the latest therapeutic developments to hone my skills as one of the top counselors in Colorado Springs.
In a culture in which only 50% of first marriages and 40% of second marriages survive, truly effective couples counseling can help couples heal relationship distress and prevent divorce.
Finally in recent years, useful and accurate data has surfaced about what keeps couples together.
I use this research and my extensive couples counseling experience to help couples stabilize, enrich, strengthen, and enjoy their relationship.
Marriage counseling in Colorado Springs with me often includes between-session assignments ranging from readings to going out on dates.
Solution focused therapy involves helping you determine exactly how you'd like your life to change, and then helping you get there using strengths and experiences you already have.
How will you know when you are doing x, what exactly will you be doing differently from what you are currently doing?.
I also use a powerful therapeutic approach called narrative therapy.
This type of work helps you find the exceptions to your problems, and helps you use the rich information that lies within those exceptions.
I believe that what is occurring in your relationships, work place, community, etc. has a great effect on your emotional well-being.
Consequently, as we work together I will want to look at how these aspects of your life are affecting you.
Also, I may want to meet with family members or significant others together with you.
Often I can be most effective using therapeutic counseling if I can work with all people involved in a given situation.
Sometimes it's not clear at first how some family members may be involved in a given problem.
