We are an experienced and licensed team of professionals ready to help with your mental and behavioral health needs. We use research-driven therapeutic approaches to help you gain insight and practical solutions to the problems you are experiencing. Counseling can feel intimidating or even scary. Seeking counseling does not make you "crazy or weak."

In fact, it takes a strong and healthy person to realize a little extra help or guidance is needed. Sometimes, it is nice to just "vent" or get an expert opinion on how to handle difficulties in our lives. At Healing Hearts, we provide a client-centered approach that personalizes your services to meet your individual needs. And we do so, in a neutral non-judgmental safe space.

We know no single approach is the best one for each individual, so we have been trained and have experience in a range of evidence-based treatment modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Sand Tray, Play Therapy, Theraplay, Art Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and short term brief solution focused therapy.

Melissa Shane served as Adjunct Professor of Psychology for thirteen years and trained and worked in private practice for over ten years, before opening Healing Hearts Counseling in 2017.
Today, Melissa enjoys working with kids, teens and adults of all ages in a broad range of issues.
Dysfunctional family of origin issues, trauma, grief and loss, death and dying, depression and anxiety, and women's issues across the lifespan (perinatal mood disorders, menopause, empty nest adjustment, and relationship problems).
Unrealistic body image, eating disorders, and low self-esteem can be clinical issues young girls struggle with today.
Hollywood and social media bombard our girls with photoshopped and heavily edited false versions of perfection that are often dangerous and unattainable.
This causes a search for perfection, self-harming behavior, peer rejection, isolation, and depression and anxiety.
Women today face more challenges, unrealistic expectations, and responsibilities than ever.
Females are inundated with societal expectations for how we should look, what our body weight should be, how we need to be a perfect parent and spouse.
Please refer to your Blue Cross member ID; if it begins with the prefix XOG or XOJ, this is a Medicaid plan.
An employee assistance program (EAP) is an employee benefit program offered by many employers.
EAPs are intended to help employees deal with personal problems that might adversely impact their job performance, health, and well-being.
EAPs are designed as short term counseling options and are often free for employees and their family members.
We are both proud and honored to announce that we are now an approved EAP provider for Peoria Public School District 150 employees and their immediate family.
