Just as a breakwater provides a safe harbor for ships until they are ready for the open sea, Breakwater Associates aims to help steer children, adolescents, and young adults towards the competence and confidence they will need to navigate the rest of their lives. Directed by Julie R. Wood, Ed. S., LPES and Meg W. Humphrey, Ed.

Services
A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual's cognitive profile, academic achievement, and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
Psychoeducational evaluations at Breakwater Associates are comprehensive, individualized, and neuropsychological-based.
If you should have any questions about the evaluation process, you may schedule a free phone consultation with one of our Licensed Psychoeducational Specialists/Certified School Psychologists prior to scheduling an initial consultation.
Breakwater Associates offers comprehensive Speech and Language services, which include Evaluation, Screenings, and Therapy for birth to young adults.
When working with clients, our speech therapist develops and implements individual treatment plans specific to each client's identified strengths and needs.
Breakwater Associates feels a team approach is the most comprehensive way to assess and address these needs.
The speech and language therapeutic process includes consultation, assessment, and treatment.
Our primary focus and passion is providing children, adolescents, families, and young adults the skills necessary for healthy functioning.
When working with clients, we approach therapy with a systems outlook.
This therapeutic process involves consultations with the client, parents, family members, school professionals, medical professionals, and other identified supports.
By doing so, a thorough and comprehensive assessment can be made regarding one's strengths and needs, clinical goals, and current level of daily functioning.
Scientific research reveals that dyslexia is a language-based learning disability.
As recommended by experts in the field of reading and language research, Breakwater Associates employs the Orton-Gillingham based approach (also referred to as a structured literacy approach) for the remediation of dyslexia and reading problems due to other factors.
An Orton-Gillingham approach (Structured Literacy Approach) offers direct instruction in the structure of the English language that is simultaneously multi-sensory, systematic, sequential, explicit, and prescriptive.
The professionals at Breakwater Associates are passionate about helping children, adolescents, and young adults succeed academically.
Executive Function coaching can benefit all individuals, including those who have not been diagnosed with a disability.
A personalized plan is designed to target each individual's executive function strengths and weaknesses and the area in which they are struggling.
Once the plan is implemented, the professional closely monitors the individual's progress through face-to-face meetings in which the effectiveness of the intervention is assessed.
