Poalima Counseling

In May of 2017, during a trip to Oahu, I was approached by a street vendor, who was selling jewelry. The woman asked, if I would like to learn what my name means in native Hawaiian. Of course, I had to give a brief description of what my name means in Bulgarian first, and apart from the Orthodox Saint Petka, Petya also loosely translates as 'of Friday' and I was also born on a Friday.

The woman taught me how to say Poalima - it sounded so incredibly euphonious, I felt it in my bones. Poalima's purpose, and Petya's reward from this work, is seeing people embody their true values, elbow themselves some space into this world, and stand unapologetically in their own two shoes, content. You can't miss her accent! Petya Pacheva was born and raised in Bulgaria, where her immediate family still resides.

In the early 2000's, she moved to Washington state to pursue higher education, which then led to her career in counseling. Over the past decade she has helped underserved communities in quite a few roles - from a co-occurring disorders counselor, jail liaison, and county designated chemical dependency specialist, to a clinical supervisor and behavioral health manager.
Services
Adverse experiences at any age can manifest a multitude of undesirable consequences, causing distress and disturbance in our lives.
Symptoms can often resemble other clinically significant conditions such as depressive, anxiety, or dissociative disorders.
Self-medicating attempts can further cloud the diagnosis, thus a formal assessment is critical in establishing proper follow-up recommendations and defining the course of treatment.
Trauma therapy is by no means a pink-and-peachy process, in fact it can initially exacerbate your symptoms - picture you have been putting bandaids on a weeping wound on your knee, you know that in order to allow the wound to heal, you will have to rip the bandaid off and thoroughly clean the wound, which often stings and hurts, but the wound can then heal - you will be whole, there will be a scar (since we can't erase your memory with a magic wand), but it will not longer weep.
