Women's Psychotherapy Centre of Wisconsin, LLC, was founded in 1988 by feminist oriented psychotherapists, deeply committed to the belief that people are filled with possibility and resources. Mary Kay Neumann, one of the original founders, carries on that tradition. Knowing that life can sometimes be overwhelming, she works with people to discover their own strengths to heal and craft their lives with more meaning and happiness.

Considering it a sacred trust to be of service she provides a calm and peaceful environment that promotes healing and well-being.
Services
At Women's Psychotherapy Centre of Wisconsin, I provide psychotherapy from a feminist perspective for people of all genders.
I am committed to social justice and anti-racism, and one of the lenses that I view the struggles that bring people into therapy is seeing these issues in a social context.
Some of those struggles - depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-injury, relationship troubles, helplessness and hopelessness are often the consequences of living in a troubled world, not because people are "sick" or have a "disorder".
Having been a trauma therapist for 35 years, many things have changed.
The word "trauma" is now used regularly by most everyone.
The other day someone said to me that the word doesn't seem to have much meaning anymore because it is thrown around so often.
I'd like to clarify what it is from a relational neuroscience perspective, or more simply, how our relationships to other humans changes our bodies and brains.
Trauma can be physical or emotional.
Our bodies are built to handle everyday traumas: the upsets and distresses of daily living.
Using the foundations of Interpersonal Neurobiology, sandtray therapy is a gentle approach to allowing our inner world "a world without words" to unfold.
Trauma stored in the body begins to move with our hands in the sand.
Placing miniature objects as symbols of our inner world can be a profound experience of allowing the traumatic material to transform.
Mindfully "playing" activates the deep emotional circuits in our brains and body when used in sandtray therapy.
This assists the healing and integration of embedded traumas of the past that live outside our conscious awareness, and that can influence all of our adult relationships.
As a licensed clinical social worker, I work with women, men and couples.
In 1984, I began practicing psychotherapy and in 1988, I co-founded Women's Psychotherapy Centre of Wisconsin.
In 2018, after 30 years of working on the Capitol Square, my office moved to Madison's East Side.
In addition to my life as a therapist, I am also an artist.
The art-making process has taught me about the power of creativity as a healing tool and as an agent of change.
Creative outlets can be enormously helpful in a person's healing journey, and I explore these avenues with many of the people I work with.
