Sheryl Lilke Mindfulness-Informed Psychotherapy & Emdr
If you're thinking about starting therapy, you've taken the first important step on the path to a sense of true, embodied well-being. It's a journey that takes courage and commitment, and it ends with a renewed sense of emotional freedom, increased self-acceptance, and a deeper connection to yourself and the world around you. As a professional counselor in Madison, WI, I'm devoted to supporting you on this challenging and transformational journey.

I'm also a fellow traveler. As I've traveled my own path to wellness, I've discovered that no single philosophy or intervention holds all the answers to life's many challenges. Somatic Psychology, which tells us that the physical sensations we experience in our bodies hold deep meaning and amazing transformational power. Mindfulness, which enhances psychotherapy by teaching us how to be fully present with our moment-to-moment experience in a curious, non-judgmental way.

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a method of processing trauma and PTSD that has been proven to reduce the negative effects of distressing thoughts, images, emotions, and body sensations.
Services
I'm a professional counselor and teacher of mindfulness meditation living with my family in Madison, Wisconsin.
Like you, I've experienced many of life's challenges and transitions-I've raised two sons, changed careers, navigated shifting family dynamics, lost loved ones, and explored the early stages of my own middle age.
The nurturing and supportive professional help I received during some of the roughest times in my life inspired me to become a professional counselor myself.
I believe that our minds, bodies, emotions, and relationships all exist interdependently.
In my counseling work I weave Western psychology, Eastern philosophy, and holistic mindfulness and body practices together to help you access your inner wisdom and innate healing potential.
Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is an approach to trauma resolution that has been backed by years of research.
EMDR directly affects the way the brain processes and holds trauma and releases traumatic memories that are trapped in the nervous system.
Feel more deeply connected to yourself and the world around you, get unstuck from patterns that limit your personal growth, and learn to increase emotional stability and inner peace through mindfulness meditation instruction or spiritual coaching.
Mindfulness-Informed Psychotherapy & Somatic Psychology: Healing Within a Genuine and Trusting Relationship.
In my counseling work I weave somatic, body-based psychology, Eastern philosophy, and holistic mindfulness and movement practices together to help you access your inner wisdom and innate healing potential.
This approach moves beyond traditional treatment for anxiety and depression.
What roadblocks have you encountered on your healing journey?
You and I will get to know each other, develop trust, and work together to create an approach that works for you.
Trauma may be experienced as a single life-threatening event or a long series of subtle threats to our safety, autonomy, and well-being.
For many of us, trauma can have serious, long-lasting effects that disrupt our emotional, physical, and spiritual development.
When this happens, we may need to seek PTSD treatment.
Trauma disrupts the forward flow of our life.
We may feel stuck in a cycle of reactive, self-destructive patterns, or we may feel doomed to re-living the traumatic experience over and over.
I like to think of spiritual practice as the steps we take to ensure that our actions in the world align with our inner ideals.
As a Buddhist practitioner, the ideas of non-harming, interdependence, and impermanence serve as a sort of compass as I move through my life.
Yoga and meditation create a space where I gain insight into the patterns, or grooves, my thoughts and emotions can sometimes get stuck in.
A practice of any sort that encourages us to examine how we move through the world can help turn off the "auto-pilot" mode we get stuck in as we move through our busy lives.
